Rebranding for the future

Challenge

Harland & Wollf, the iconic Belfast shipyard famed for its yellow cranes and the construction of the Titanic had been acquired by the Spanish shipbuilding giant Navantia. Integral to deal was the retention of the Harland & Wolff name, honouring its rich heritage and importance to the economy of the area.

Responsibilities

We we tasked with evolving the existing identity to establish a clear relationship between the Harland & Wolff and Navantia UK brands. The updated identity retained the recognisable HW monogram, while introducing a new logotype more aligned with the "H&W" shorthand displayed on the shipyard's cranes. We also incorporated elements from the Navantia waves logo into the Navantia UK master brand, to create a system that make visual connections between the two identities.

Achievements

In addition to the visual work, we developed the verbal platform "For the next generation." The new narrative highlights Navantia UK's commitment to investing in the Belfast shipyard, with a focus on developing state-of-the-art facilities, growing the number of apprentices and preserving job security for the region's workforce.

The project had a successful launch at CNE 2025 in Farnborough and the new identity was very well received by the team in Belfast.
